Yarrow Ecovillage

Fall 2011:

Hank Giesbrecht is an 85-year-old barber who has been cutting hair in Yarrow since the 1940's and has watched the Yarrow Ecovillage develop directly across the street from his shop. With a long list of regular clients in the community and a gift of gab, Giesbrecht has been a big part of communicating the purpose of the Yarrow Ecovillage to the existing Yarrow community. The Yarrow Ecovillage is a residential co-housing community that provides a model of sustainability. The Ecovillage is a walkable environment that offers, among other things, community meals and gardens to its residents. Members of the community take pride is "knowing their neighbors" who share common social and environmental goals. Here, Hank gives his grandson, Jordan Giesbrecht, 21, a trim.
